Rotary Club of Ala Moana Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Hilo for achieving a milestone of 100 years of Rotary service. Chartered in June 1972, the Ala Moana Rotary Club's focus has been primarily serving the communities of the Ala Moana, McCully, Kaka'ako, Makiki areas. Some of our Club's projects indude: Santa Clothes, where 25 underprivileged students at Lunalilo Elementary School are taken on a shopping spree for dothes and school supplies. The Club has been conducting this project since 2005. Even before that, the Club adopted Lunalilo School and is a community partner of the school working together on projects and events. Club members have distributed dictionaries to third graders in several elementary schools and conducted vision tests for over 15 years. Ringing the bells for the Salvation Army is an annual event. Ala Moana Rotary is the proud sponsor of the Hawaii Baptist Academy Interact Club. Rotarians and Interactors work side by side on the Santa Clothes, Honolulu Marathon, and bell ringing projects in addition to HBA's annual Fun Fair where Club members are expert waffle dog makers. The Club partnered with Aloha Harvest and conducted a drive-through food distribution on Halloween for all of the families of Lunalilo School. The Club also provided books for the early learning classes at Kalihi Uka School, along with sanitizing supplies. Globally, Ala Moana Rotary has participated in grants for medical equipment in Thai hospitals, transportation for an orphanage in Thailand, refurbishing a school in Ecuador, funding microbanks in Malawi, providing clean water in third world villages, providing prostheses for physically challenged in Bali, among numerous other projects. COVID-19 has not deterred the spirit of service of Rotary. For the time being, our meetings are virtual, but we hope to return to in-person meetings when the time is right.
